Frequently Asked Questions

1-Q -- When should I make my flight arrangements to arrive in Dillingham?
1-A-- You should arrive the night before your scheduled fishing trip is to begin, stay at a B&B and be ready to fly to the lodge usually early.( Example) You have booked a fishing trip from June 15th thru the 20th. You should fly into Dillingham on the 14th so you will be ready to fly to the lodge the next morning.

2-Q--When should I make my flight arrangements to leave Dillingham for home?
2-A --Using the same example as above you should book your flight to leave Dillingham no earlier than noon of the 20th or stay at a B&B and leave the next day.

3-Q--How do I get to Nushagak River Lodge from Dillingham?
3-A--Freshwater Adventures, an air taxi located next to the Alaska Airline terminal in Dillingham flies my clients to camp in a 8+ passenger DeHavilland Otter or Goose. Taking off from Dillingham Airport it takes about 15 minutes to reach the lodge where you will land out front on the river.

4-Q--Besides my airline ticket to Dillingham and the cost of fishing package what other expenses will I have?
4-A--The cost of your round trip ticket from Dillingham to the lodge is $200.00 to be paid with your balance on or before April 15th, next your fishing license and king salmon tag for 5 days is $85.00 which can be purchased at the lodge, last, the gas for the boat for a 5 day trip costs about $30 - $50 per person.

5-Q--What am I required to bring on my trip?
5-A--First, your personal clothes (including warm items such as long johns if your so inclined gloves, good rain gear, waterproof foot ware, warm hat) weather ranges from 45 to 80 degrees. Second, a medium wt sleeping bag. Third, a 40 to 50 qt chest cooler filled with your favorite soft drink or spirits.  Please, no square coolers, large body bag duffles, or huge suitecases.  We will pack your fish in the cooler for your trip home. Last, your fishing gear, rods, reels, and tackle box. We do have some gear on hand if you wish to rent rods and reels. We use 7 to 9ft bait casting rods, level wind reels equipped with 17 to 20 lb line. We do sell fishing lures ( Spin Glos, Quick fish K-16, and Wiggle warts) if you can't find them where you live. They will be more expensive in Alaska. Don't forget your camera.

6-Q--What size and type of luggage should I bring?
6-A--The biggest concern is overall weight.  You should bring no more than 80lbs of gear in order to ensure you and all of your luggage make it to the lodge.  We ask that you refrain from using square coolers, large body duffles, or huge suitecases.

7-Q--How many fishermen to cabin and a boat?
7-A--We put 3 people to a cabin unless it is a man and woman then only 2. We can also arrange a cabin to suit a family of 4. We put 3 people to a boat but they will fish 4 people comfortably. The boats are 19 and 20ft Lowes powered by 40 Yamaha 4stroke outboard motors, boats are also equipped with padded Fish on seats.

8-Q--If I have never fished for salmon before will there be somebody in camp to help us for a short time and show us some of the fishing holes on the Nushagak River?
8-A--Due to the high number of return clientele there will always be someone in camp who knows where the best holes on the river are located.
