5. What am I required to bring on my trip?
First, your personal clothes (including warm items such as long johns, gloves, good rain gear, waterproof footwear, and warm hat). Weather ranges from 45 to 80 degrees. Second, a medium weight sleeping bag, not down. Third, a 40 to 50 qt chest cooler filled with your favorite soft drinks or spirits. Please, no square coolers, large body bag duffles, or huge suitcases. We will pack your fish in the cooler for your trip home. Last, your fishing gear, rods, reels, and tackle box. We do have some gear on hand if you wish to rent rods and reels. We use 7 to 9ft bait casting rods, level wind reels equipped with 17 to 20 lb line. We do sell fishing lures (Spin Glos, Quick fish K-16, and Wiggle warts) if you can't find them where you live. They will be more expensive in Alaska. Oh, and don't forget your camera.
6. What size and type of luggage should I bring?
The biggest concern is overall weight. You should bring no more than 50lbs of gear, including personal items and fishing gear, in order to ensure you and all of your luggage make it to the lodge. We ask that you refrain from using square coolers, large body duffles, or huge suitcases.
7. How many fishermen to cabin and a boat?
We put 3 people to a cabin unless it is a man and woman then only 2. We can also arrange a cabin to suit a family of 4. We put 3 people to a boat but they will fish 4 people comfortably. The boats are 19.6 Lowes powered by 40HP Yamaha four stroke outboard motors. Boats also include oars and fishnets and are equipped with padded Fish-On seats.
8. If I have never fished for salmon before will there be somebody in camp to help us for a short time and show us some of the fishing holes on the Nushagak River?
Due to the high number of return clientele there will always be someone in camp who knows where the best holes on the river are located.
